It had started with Facebook, and the fact that, below the nice guy team player thing, Blaine was actually a really competitive person.

So, when he received a Words With Friends request from Mike Chang, he really had no choice but to accept it.

The war, and resulting friendship, remained, for the most part, hidden. There were the moments in Glee when Blaine would suddenly mutter “Q!” triumphantly and then Mike’s phone would beep and Blaine’s smile would be impossible to wipe off for the rest of the day. But, being New Directions, no one ever really seemed to notice.

No one ever really seemed to realize that the two boys counted each other as one of their best friends.

“Blaine!” The entire club looked around as the shout echoed into the choir room from the hallway outside. Blaine simply looked amused.

“What on earth—” said Rachel, as Mike Chang appeared in the doorway, eyes narrowed at the shorter boy.

“Mike, don’t you have choreography—?” said Mr. Schuester.

“Sorry, Mr. Schue, but I have to…talk to Blaine.” Mike held up his phone. “Really, Blaine? ‘Xylol’?”

“It’s a word, look it up,” said Blaine, defensively. “I told you, Chang, I’m a master and you’re going down.”

“I wouldn’t count on it,” said Mike, tapping out on his phone. “And, also, Chelsea told me that she’s beating you by about 80 points, so I don’t think you can call yourself a master if my twelve year old sister is beating you.”

“Well, how does it feel to be losing to someone who is losing to your twelve year old sister, hmm?” said Blaine.

“Like I said, I wouldn’t count on it.” Mike grinned triumphantly, and Blaine’s phone beeped. “Sorry for the interruption, Mr. Schue, I just wanted to see the look on his face. He hates losing.”

“I hate you so much,” muttered Blaine, staring at his phone.

“Better luck next time, dude,” said Mike, patting him on the back.
